The short version
The JARA Motor Control app does not collect anything about you. There are no accounts and no sign-in. The app talks only to your own controller — over the controller’s Wi-Fi access point or Bluetooth — and never to a Jara server. There is no analytics, tracking, or crash reporting in it.
Your settings, tuning profiles, and logs live on your phone and go nowhere else. If you uninstall the app, they are gone.
This website has no sign-in and no analytics either. The only information it receives is what you type into the engineering inquiry form and choose to send us.
The mobile app
JARA Motor Control (com.jara.tech.motor.controller) is a companion app for Jara motor controllers. It configures and monitors hardware you already own.
The app has no user accounts, no login, and no backend service operated by Jara. Every request it makes goes to your controller on your local network or over a direct Bluetooth connection. It does not send usage data, diagnostics, crash reports, or device identifiers to us or to any third party, because there is nowhere for that data to go.
Concretely, the app contains:
- No analytics or tracking. No advertising identifier, no attribution SDK, no measurement service.
- No crash reporting service. If the app crashes, the record is written to local storage so you can read it on the diagnostics screen. It is not transmitted.
- No remote configuration or over-the-air updates. App updates arrive only through the normal channels — TestFlight on iPhone, or a new download from this site on Android.
Location and GPS speed
Location powers exactly one optional feature: the GPS speedometer.
Some Jara setups have no wheel-speed sensor, so the app can read road speed from your phone’s own GPS instead. That is the only reason it ever asks for location.
- It is off until you use it. The app does not ask for location permission, and does not start GPS, until you open the speedometer feature.
- Foreground only. The app never requests background location and cannot track you when it is closed. Leaving the screen stops GPS.
- Your coordinates are never read. The app takes two values from each location update — speed and its accuracy — and discards the rest. Latitude and longitude are not read, not stored, and not transmitted.
- Nothing is kept. Speed is converted, shown on the dial, and gone. No location history is written to disk.
If you use the optional soft speed limiter, the app uses your current speed to decide how much power to allow, and sends that power limit to your controller. The limit is a number like “80% power” — your location is not part of it, and it goes to your controller, not to us.
Bluetooth and local network
The app needs Bluetooth and local-network access to reach your controller, which is the entire point of the app. Bluetooth is used only to find and connect to Jara controllers; on Android the Bluetooth scan is explicitly flagged so that it cannot be used to derive your location.
Local-network access is used to talk to the controller’s built-in web interface, typically at 192.168.50.1. The app is configured so that it can only make unencrypted connections to local addresses like these — it cannot silently send data out to the internet.
What stays on your device
All of it. None of the following ever leaves your phone on its own.
- Connection preferences— whether you last used Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and the address or device you last connected to.
- Controller settings and tuning profiles — the configurations you save, including custom profiles and battery presets.
- Diagnostic and fault logs— a rolling history of faults reported by your controller.
- App crash records— kept locally so you can read or copy them if something goes wrong.
- Interface preferences— theme, language, units, and which screens you have visited or pinned.
Uninstalling the app removes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.
Files you export
The app can export a configuration profile or a log file so you can back it up or send it to someone. This only ever happens when you tap the export or share button — nothing is shared automatically. Once you hand a file to another app, email, or cloud service, that destination’s privacy practices apply, not ours.
An exported configuration profile contains your controller’s full settings, including the Wi-Fi network name and password the controller broadcasts. Treat an exported profile like a password: think before posting one in a public forum or group chat.
This website
The site has no accounts and no sign-in, and we do not run analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts on it. We do not sell or share information about visitors.
- Saved articles and likesstay in your own browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser data clears them.
- The engineering inquiry formis the one place you send us information. What you type — such as your email, company, and what you are building — reaches us so we can reply. We use it to answer your inquiry and keep a record of the conversation.
- Ordinary server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request information such as IP address and browser type, as any web server does, and we rely on it to keep the site running and secure.
Downloading the Android app from the app pageis a plain file download and does not require an account. Installing through TestFlight on iPhone goes through Apple, and Apple’s own privacy policy covers what they collect as part of that.
Children
JARA Motor Control is a tool for configuring motor-control hardware and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
